New ISO Amendment highlights Climate Changes
A Climate Change amendment has been issued by ISO for all the main ISO Management Standards. This requires all Certified organisations to consider the effect of Climate change on their business. This is an unprecedented action and comes into effect immediately.

The current list of Amendments includes the following Standards.
- ISO 9001 – Quality
- ISO 14001 – Environmental
- ISO 20000 – IT Service Management
- ISO 22000 – Food Safety
- ISO 22301 – Business Continuity
- ISO 27001 – Information Security
- ISO 45001 – Health & Safety
- ISO 50001 – Energy Management
Additionally, it is planned that other Management Standards will be required to comply in the future.
The changes are:
The addition to Clause 4.1 – Understanding the Organisation and its Context:
- The organization shall determine whether climate change is a relevant issue.
The addition to Clause 4.2 Understanding the Needs and Expectations of Interested Parties:
- NOTE Relevant interested parties can have requirements related to climate change.
We understand that some guidance issued to Certification Bodies requires Assessors to discuss and report on the Management’s response to Climate Change. There was no set start date specified so Assessors will be starting to raise Climate Change now.
