Background

ISO 9001: 2000 (now ISO 9001: 2008) was originally planned to cover the requirements of all service and manufacturing organisations. However by making the Standard more applicable to service type organisations, certain Industries or sectors considered that the Standard was not specific enough for particular aspects of their operation.
