Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (Updated)

Congratulations on achievement of Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme

Congratulations to Barretts of Aspley. They have just achieved accreditation to FORS, the Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme. In fact, CHARTER4 have helped Barretts to achieve Certification to Bronze, and then Silver level.

FORS is an in-depth and independent assessment of vehicles and their commercial fleet operation. The scheme was designed for vehicles supplying construction sites in London. It is a voluntary accreditation scheme. The principal focus is on best practice in vehicle management and fleet operation. There are accreditation plans for all types of fleet operators, as well as for organisation awarding contracts and specifying transport requirements.

Achievement levels in the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme

The FORS membership scheme offers three achievement standards allowing progressive development. The Bronze standard naturally starts the scheme. Subsequently, the Silver and Gold levels allow operators to meet higher achievements of best practice. Inevitably, the scheme has aspirations for its membership to take on these higher standards. The elevations to higher levels of the scheme take companies above the industry legal minimum standards. Thus, the higher standards lead to greater competitiveness and improved sales.

To quote the official literature, “FORS encourages operators to take a closer look at themselves and identify areas of strength to be exploited and areas for improvement to be addressed”.

FORS has been a successful scheme, with aspirations to become the go-to accreditation scheme in the industry. Recently, FORS itself has responded to industry developments. Consequently, the scheme has taken on new and expanded focus points. These include support schemes for efficient technologies, especially for fuel and emissions reduction; safe urban driving and a ‘low emission van hub’ for smaller operators. These and other schemes have made the importance of operator ‘standards’ all the more effective. Additionally, developments like these are affecting the development of the whole industry.

Transportation is the centre of the world! It is the glue of our daily lives. When it goes well, we don’t see it. When it goes wrong, it negatively colours our day, makes us feel angry and impotent, curtails our possibilities.

~ Robin Chase

When we talk about ‘smart transportation,’ it is more than moving cargo from A to B. Digitization within transport and logistics means seamless service to our customers, visibility in the supply chain, and driving a more efficient business.

CHARTER4 – supporting you in achieving quality standards

Our work with Barretts of Aspley has been rewarding and successful. We wish them further success with the development of even higher standards in the future. However, beyond working toward FORS with Barretts, we also tackle a wide range of other standards.

At CHARTER4 our focus is on improving your business. We have many years of experience working with organisations at all levels. While we work with International Standards, we also work with a range of local, national and specialist Standards. In fact, it is our business to help you to improve your business through implementation of appropriate ‘Quality Standards’.

A whole range of  ‘Standards’ are available to your organisation. At the core of International Standards lies ISO 9001. That “Quality Management Standard” sets out the criteria for a quality management system. That Standard provides a great position from which you can start your ISO journey and meet the major challenges of today. Companies can become certified to ISO 9001, and then branch out to a whole range of further standards that relate to specialised situations, industries and supporting standards. Using ISO 9001 guides your organisation toward the goal of delivering consistent, good-quality products and services that at least meet customer expectations. That leads to increased competitive advantage and, subsequently, sales.

The unique approach at CHARTER4 is to ensure we, “improve your business, not just comply” to the Standard you have chosen. To achieve accreditation is useful. To make your investment pay is even better. Accordingly, our support helps you to accreditation success, but our aim is to improve your business advantage.
