ISO has announced the provisional publication date of 27 November for the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) of ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems – requirements standard. The development of this standard has been slow and at times unpredictable, because of the different approaches to Occupational Health & Safety in different countries.
Publication of the final standard is likely to be in the first quarter of 2018. When ISO 45001 is published, then OHSAS 18001 will be withdrawn, All organizations, who are currently certified to OHSAS 18001, will have a three year period to Transition to ISO 45001: 2018.
Please note that the Certification Assessors will not be able to issue UKAS certified Certificates, immediately after the publication of the Standard. All the Certification Assessors will be required to apply via UKAS and will have to complete their own Transition process to be able to offer Accredited certification to ISO 45001.
