ISO 9001: 2015 was published September 2015, with a 3 year transition. Time is therefore running out before the existing ISO 9001: 2008 Certificates expire. This is especially because the Transition Audits must take place by June 2018 to allow 3 months to close-out and Non-Conformances.
This would seem plenty of time for the changes. However, Companies have only one more Surveillance Audit from their Certification Body, before the expiry of their Certificate. Any business expecting that they can book a special Transition Audit in August 2018, will have difficulty and may well be disappointed.
We had expected that in 2016, there would have been more “Early Adopters”. All our Clients, for whom it is appropriate with their plans, have transitioned. However there has been limited interest from other Companies. One reason may be that certain Certification Bodies were much delayed in receiving their official approval from UKAS.
The cheapest and most convenient time to Transition is at the Surveillance or Recertification Audit visits. This means that there is a maximum of one more Surveillance visit.
Any Company hoping to delay Transition to say August 2018, will both have to pay for extra visit/s and find that they cannot organise a date till after September 2018 and so their Certification will lapse. Certification Organisation already are saying that they will only be able to book only a few special Transition audits just before the Deadline and that some Companies’ Certificates will expire.
The message is – Now is the time to start your Transition to ISO 9001: 2015. Do not delay.
