The new ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management systems – requirements standard was published on 12th March 2018. The development of this standard has been slow and at times unpredictable, because of the different approaches to Occupational Health & Safety in different countries.
The publication of the ISO 45001 means the OHSAS 18001 certificates will expire in 3 years. All organizations, who are currently certified to OHSAS 18001, will have a three year period to Transition to ISO 45001: 2018.
Please note that the Certification Assessors will not be able to issue UKAS certified Certificates, immediately after the publication of the Standard. All the Certification Bodies will be required to apply to UKAS for extension of their Accreditation. Then they will have to complete their own Transition process to be able to offer Accredited certification to ISO 45001. This includes training and approving their Assessors to the new requirements.
