ISO 14001:2004 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT STANDARD

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 was developed as a similar approach to ISO9001 but to cover the management of Environmental risks and resources.

ISO 14001 specifies what is required for an environmental management system so that an organisation can develop and implement documented system which includes the legal and other requirements relevant to the business, as well as the relevant environmental aspects. The environmental aspects are those that the business has identified and which it can affect. The Standard does not specify particular environmental performance criteria.

ISO 14001 is relevant to any business that wants to setup, implement and develop an environmental management system, so as to insure that it conforms to its own environmental policy, and to proving compliance to ISO 14001.

All the parts of ISO 14001 should be included into any environmental management system. Each environmental system will differ because of the differences of activities, services and location.

Who needs it? Any Organisation serious about the Environment and the Environmental impact of its products and service. All requirements of this International Standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organisations, regardless of type, size and product provided.

Where any requirement(s) of this International Standard cannot be applied due to the nature of an organisation and its product, this can be considered for exclusion
